Physical Therapy is a hands on, drug free approach that focuses on the manual treatment of soft tissue including muscles, tendons, ligaments and fascia. Physical Therapists integrate a wide variety of advanced soft tissue approaches and modalities in order to create change in the soft tissues and joints of the body thus restoring balance, optimal alignment and pain-free function. It is based on health science principles such as anatomy and physiology and works well alongside other health care practices. Physical Therapy takes a whole body view which includes a thorough history, professional assessment, diagnosis and suitable treatment plan as well as a tailor made home care programme.
Over the last 19 years Physical Therapy has developed under the guidance and direction of the IAPT as a primary healthcare profession in the field of musculoskeletal health. An increasing number of people are using this form of approach in treating conditions that include back pain, whiplash, headaches, hip and knee pain, herniated disc, plantar fascitis as well as many sports injuries. All graduates from The Institute of Physical Therapy and Applied Science (IPTAS) now qualify with a level 7 degree awarded by HETAC, the statutory authority for awarding third level qualifications inIrelandand is a full member of the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA).
As a Physical Therapist I focus on a patient centered approach that places an emphasis on improving a client?s mobility and function that will aid their recovery. This may include a look at the client?s workplace, their activities of daily living and recreational activities, giving a measured and informed prognosis regarding the client?s injury or condition. Physical Therapy is an excellent drug free solution to those who find themselves hindered by long-term pain.
